The Bulldogs posted an 8-under 280 in the first round on Friday at The Brickyard at Riverside, which is a par-72 layout covering 7,175 yards. Georgia will head into Saturday's second round with a 3-shot advantage over North Florida.
Reach, a sophomore, signed for a 4-under 68 for a 1-shot edge over seven players. Reach recorded five birdies, including a stretch of three straight on the front nine, and only one bogey.
Senior T.J. Mitchell notched a 2-under 70 for ninth place, while junior Brian Carter and freshman Lee McCoy each added a 1-under 71 for 12th place. Sophomore Sepp Straka had the Bulldogs' non-counting score of 5-over 77. Playing as individuals, junior Keith Mitchell fired a 2-over 74 and sophomore Sam Straka shot a 3-over 75.
"I could not be happier with the way we played today," Georgia coach Chris Haack said. "The guys were really focused and played with a lot of confidence. That's the way we need to keep playing the rest of the weekend."
