T.J. Mitchell stands 10th individually after 36 holes |
The No. 7-ranked Georgia men's golf team stands seventh after two rounds of the AutoTrader.com Collegiate Classic.
On Monday at Berkeley Hills Country Club, the Bulldogs posted loops of 291 and 303 for a total of 26-over 594. Georgia Southern has the team lead at 1-over 569.
Senior T.J. Mitchell paced the Bulldogs on Monday as he recorded rounds of 73 and 72 for a total of 3-over 145. Junior Keith Mitchell was next at 5-over 147 (72-75), followed by freshman Lee McCoy at 7-over 149 (70-79), sophomore Sam Straka at 12-over 154 (77-77) and sophomore Nicholas Reach at 13-over 155 (76-79). Playing as an individual, junior Joey Garber had rounds of 71 and 76 for a total of 5-over 147.
T.J. Mitchell is 10th individually, trailing South Carolina's Dykes Hardin by seven shots. Garber and Mitchell are among the players tied for 16th individually.
"Our second round really stung us," Georgia coach Chris Haack said. "We played pretty well in the first round, but we could not get anything going for us in the second round. That's golf. You have to respond to the course, the weather, whatever. I expect us to come out swinging on Tuesday and we'll see how it winds up."
