Georgia Golfers Stand Fourth At Linger Longer Invitational
The 13th-ranked Georgia men’s golf team is in fourth place after one round of the Linger Longer Invitational at Great Waters Golf Course.
On Sunday, the Bulldogs fired a 3-over 291. Georgia is seven shots behind co-leaders Alabama and Chattanooga (284).
Seniors Harris English and Hudson Swafford paced the Bulldogs on Sunday. English opened with a 3-under 69 and is in second place behind Alabama’s Cory Whitsett (64), while Swafford is in ninth at even-par 72.
The Bulldogs also got 3-over 75s from sophomore T.J. Mitchell and freshman Michael Cromie and a 5-over 77 from senior Russell Henley.
“We’ve had some slow starts in recent tournaments, so it was nice to see us get off to a better start in this one,” Georgia coach Chris Haack said. “We know we can play better, and the good news is we’re still in the hunt. I am excited about seeing what we can do over the next couple of days.”
Playing as individuals, sophomore Scott McAlpine shot a 2-over 74, freshman Keith Mitchell signed for a 4-over 76 and senior Rob Bennett carded a 5-over 77.
The Linger Longer Invitational will continue on Monday and will conclude on Tuesday. Live scoring can be found at golfstat.com.
