Dawgs Finish Sixth In Las Vegas

The 13th-ranked Georgia men's golf team posted its best round of the weekend on Sunday en route to a sixth-place finish in the Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters.

The Bulldogs had a final-round total of 1-under 287 to wind up at 26-over 890. Oklahoma State took team honors at 1-under 863.

Senior Hudson Swafford paced the Bulldogs on Sunday with a 5-under 67. Senior Harris English signed for an even-par 72, followed by sophomore Bryden Macpherson at 1-over 73, and senior Russell Henley and freshman Michael Cromie each at 3-over 75.

Swafford placed ninth individually at 3-over 219, 13 shots behind medalist Morgan Hoffmann of Oklahoma State. Henley and Cromie finished at 8-over 224, followed by English at 10-over 226 and Macpherson at 14-over 230.

"I am happy with the way our guys maintained their focus and played well coming in," Georgia coachChris Haack said. "It shows that there's no quit in our team. At the same time, it's important that we play well at the start of tournaments to put ourselves in the hunt. We've showed what we're capable of; we just need to put it all together for three rounds."

The Bulldogs will return to action next Sunday in the Callaway Golf Match Play Championship at Hawks Ridge Golf Club in Ball Ground, Ga.
