Bo Sikes and Davis Thompson have signed
their national letters of intent to join the Georgia men’s golf team, according
to an announcement Wednesday by Bulldogs coach Chris Haack.
Sikes attends The Marist School in Atlanta and will be
playing on the golf team for the third time next spring. He averaged 77.5 last
year, highlighted by a 71 at The Invite in Gainesville. Sikes had top-10
showings in the
Southeast Junior Golf Tour’s Doublegate Classic and The Georgia
Club Junior Classic. He was chosen by students and faculty to serve on the
Emmaus Board, the spiritual leaders of the student body. Sikes is the grandson
of Billy Payne, the Georgia football standout who served as the CEO for the
Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games in 1996 and currently holds the
position of chairman of Augusta National Golf Club. Marist also produced
current Bulldogs Will Chandler and Jack Larkin Jr.
Thompson attends Lee-Scott Academy in Auburn, Ala. After
being named the 2015 SJGT Player of the Year, he won six straight SGJT
tournaments in 2016, including the UGA Junior Classic in Athens. Thompson was
the runner-up in the 2016 AISA State High School Championship and he claimed
16th in the Alabama State Amateur. His
father, Todd, played for the Bulldogs from 1985-88, winning twice and serving
as team captain his junior and senior seasons.
“We expect Bo and Davis to bring a great deal to our
program,” Haack said. “They are solid prospects who have bright days ahead of
them. They’ve been on our radar for quite awhile, and we can’t wait to have
them join us in Athens. With their family backgrounds, they know the history
and the tradition of Georgia, and I can tell they’re excited about being
Bulldogs.”
