Watson: 'Thrill Of A Lifetime' To Go To The Olympics

Bubba Watson
Two-time Masters winner Bubba Watson leads the seven-person contingent selected to represent the United States at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

The 37-year-old Watson, who claimed the coveted green jacket at the Masters in 2012 and 2014, is a nine-time PGA Tour winner and has represented the United States on three Ryder Cup teams (2010, 2012, 2014) and two Presidents Cup sides (2011, 2015).

"It is an honor and a privilege," Watson said. "You think about the United States and the flag and what it represents and how it gives us the freedoms to do all the things we want to do. You think about the men and women that are serving our country. For me just to have a part of that flag for a little bit, for one week out of the year, to give them something to watch, something to cheer for, no matter how I play or how I perform, just the honor to represent our country in the right way is the thrill of a lifetime."

The other American males are Matt Kuchar, Rickie Fowler and Patrick Reed. Stacy Lewis, Lexi Thompson and Gerina Piller will represent the U.S. for the women.

"We are extremely excited about the golf competition, and we are fortunate to have seven world class players representing the United States of America at the Olympic Games," USOC chief executive officer Scott Blackmun said. "I know they will make us proud. They already have."

• In case you missed it, Watson unveiled some pretty amazing plans for Rio on the Today Show.

• There will be seven Bulldogs in action this week in the PGA Tour's RBC Canadian Open at Glen Abbey Golf Club: Brendon Todd, Hudson Swafford, Chris Kirk, Brian Harman, Kevin Kisner, Erik Compton and Joey Garber. Garber plays on the MacKenzie Tour and was a Monday qualifier.
