Henley Wins Sony Open, 3 Dawgs in Top 10

Russell Henley wins his first event on The PGA Tour as a rookie

Russell Henley broke numerous PGA Tour records in route to winning The Sony Open in his first start as a member of the PGA Tour.  Henley shot a four round total of 24 under par (256) and now holds the tournament scoring record at The Sony Open as well as the all time low 72 hole total at any PGA Tour event by a rookie.  Henley held at least a share of the lead after 36 and 54 holes in becoming the first rookie to win in their PGA Tour debut since 2001.

With his historic win, Henley will be making a few changes to his playing schedule this year.  Henley will now be in the field for the Masters and the PGA Championship.  He now sits at #50 in the Official World Golf Ranking and if he stays in the top 64 for four more weeks, he will qualify for the Accenture World Match Play Championship in February and will most likely be in the field for the World Golf Cadillac Championship at Doral in March.

Also making some noise at The Sony Open were Chris Kirk, Harris English and Erik Compton.  Kirk finished tied for 5th at 16 under par and Harris joined him in the top ten by tying for 9th at 14 under par.  Harris had the lowest 2 round total of all players in the field over the final 36 holes as he made the cut on the number and finished in the top 10.  Erik Compton finished tied for 31st at 9 under par.

All four of the Bulldogs making the cut at The Sony will be in the field this week at PGA West for the Humana Challenge.  Joining those four in California, will be Brian Harman and Justin Bolli as the event gets under way Thursday.
